Happn a dating app launched its services in India

Happn the French based dating app which competes with the likes of Tinder, has launched in India last week and have already attracted 2 lakh users.

Didier Rappaport CO-founder of Happn said

“we plan to target 1 million users in India by the end of 2016. By August we are also planning to raise Series C funding in Between 38-50 million euros.”

Happn was launched in February 2014 in Paris by Didier Rappaport, Faboen Cohen and Anthony Cohen. Rappaport was also a co-founder of Dailymotion a video sharing site. Happn has around 17 million users and as for its target market it counts cities with population of more than 1 million. It has received more than 20million euros in funding and is investing 1 million euros for online and offline marketing which includes social media.

The app includes some major cities like London, Paris, New York and Buenos Aires, and it claims to get 2 million users a month. The app is available on all three platform, Android, iOS and Windows store. It avoids the use of algorithms and uses hyperlocation to get people in touch with each other. With the use of hyperlocation the app puts out the profile of the user with whom they cross path. Profile of the matched user is shown in the newsfeed which can further be accessed and one can establish a conversation.

Didier Rappaport also said

“We researched online dating websites before launching Happn and realised that the experience can be time consuming and full of questions. We don’t believe in algorithms. We believe in real life and that people passing by each other may have similar likes and interests-they may work at the same office, or may be going to the same parties.”
